  1. My expectations of this course are to gain an understanding of what government and non-profit accounting entail and how to distinguish differences between the two.

  2. I have taken classes on accounting obviously and they only brushed the surface of some specific topics and only did accounting as a general subject. I'm looking forward to see how this side of accounting works

  3. This will be my fourth or fifth, I lost count, accunting class. All of them have been interesting but I enjoy having Professor Thomas as our instructor because other teachers expect you to memorize everything. Anyone who knows accounting knows that that is completely unreasonable. Being able to use notes and rework problems you have messed up on is what learning is really about. I learn the best by working one type of problem over and over with different numbers or slight variations. I think most of our class time should be devoted to working on problems that are similar to our homework.

  4. I would have to say that my main objective of this course is to learn how accounting principles apply to government and non-profit organizations. I agree with Karen that it is better to really understand what it is you are doing rather than memorizing the problems. I am hoping that I will gain an in-depth understanding of the topics that will be applied to real life situations. As for expectations from the professor, I have always preferred those that are patient and positive with students when he/she is having a hard time understanding or catching on.

  5. I agree with karen and amanda, learning is better than memorizing. I have had classes in the past where you talked about the basics, but then when you were tested, it was all the crazy, extravagant situations which really did little to really test if you knew at least the basics. I mean those tougher situations or problems are there but its best to crawl, walk and then run.

  6. What really frustrates me about professors is when they teach the course at their level and not at the students level. It makes the course unnecessarily difficult when a professor assumes you know what he/she is talking about because they already understand the material. I just expect to be able to apply what I've actually LEARNED in class to real world situations.

  7. One past frustration would be having to successfully complete homework assignments which were much more involved, not to mention complicated, than the chapter examples. Most of the time the learning objectives and terminology was not enough to do the assigned problems. I am expecting to understand enough about the chapter material to be able to do the assignments and apply that knowledge to other problems and excercises.
